WHO WE ARE
We deliver free neuroscience workshops to elementary and high school classrooms in under-resourced neighbourhoods, proudly serving schools throughout the greater Montréal area as well as remote areas in northern Québec (Brainreach North). Through hands-on activities, we help students understand how their brains work, break down the stigma surrounding mental illness by explaining its biological basis, and give a real-world glimpse into the life of a scientist.
BrainReach is just the beginning of what we hope will become a lasting addition to science education in Montréal — inspiring curiosity, building confidence, and making neuroscience accessible to all. WHAT WE DOEach school year, IPN graduate students are assigned to a classroom that they visit once a month for six to eight months.
In each visit, they lead a 45–60 minute interactive workshop, built on the principles of brain-based learning and designed to spark curiosity in young minds. Every month focuses on a different, age-appropriate topic in neuroscience — always relevant, always engaging. Neuroscience shapes who we are and how we see the world, making it the perfect subject for students who are still discovering themselves and imagining their futures. Bringing enthusiastic young neuroscientists in the classroom lets students feel that passion firsthand, while giving our graduate students valuable teaching experience. In our most recent season, over 100 BrainReach educators taught in more than 30 elementary and high schools, delivering workshops in both French and English. Together, we reach 1,000+ students every year. BrainReach is part of a larger network of outreach programs in Montreal.
