Session 1. What is the brain?

Goal of the Presentation

  • Eliminate any false ideas about who can become a scientist (scientists are not all old men with wild hair!)
  • Discover the term neuroscience
  • Understand that the brain is an organ in our body
  • Learn that the brain, spinal cord, and nerves are part of the nervous system
  • Investigate what the brain looks like and why it is “wrinkly”

All these materials can be picked up from Duff Room A10. You must email brainreach.elementary@gmail.com at least one week before your presentation to arrange a pick-up date and time. Please be sure to sign out your materials and return them within 24hrs of your presentation. Do not prop open the door to Duff A10 when collecting materials.

Draw a scientist activity

When scheduling your first presentation, ask the teacher to have every student in the class draw a picture of a scientist before your first presentation. A more detailed explanation of the activity can be found in the presenter's guide.
